| This is the fourth major revision of the site. The biggest change is that it is now hosted on my own domain, anarchius.org. The first
three versions were hosted on geocities.com. The third revision had gotten rid of frames, and I am continuing with the same design. Have grown to like this look, really.
Update: Just working on a set of changes, version 4.5 if you will, cleaning up the text on the generic sections. Also changed the name of the site to anarchius.org from Quaxzarron. Making it simpler for the search engines, and a form or brand consolidation. <grin>
The other main difference in the fourth version is that I am using #includes to simplify some items like the navigation bar on the right hand side.
The first two version were a bit clunky with frames. This new version without frames looks a lot elegant. Sometimes I wonder why I ever went for a frames based design. Guess that was the engineer in me, wanting to document all clicks on the site, and provide navigation to all sections at the same time. I am continuing with the same design without frames. The use of #includes overcomes the maintenance issues of updating all the pages of a section with every change in that section.
I am still using Dreamweaver to build these pages. Initially I was proud of the vi/Linux and notepad/Windows sites that I had churned out. Now I have grown out of it. And of the tools available, Dreamweaver is probably the best that anyone can do. The thing I love most about Dreamweaver is the fact that you can switch between code and design views, while the editor takes care to make sure that both of them are in sync. For a person who needs to dabble in code all the time this is a perfect.
Now that I have my own domain, CGI is an option. Though I have not started using it right now, I really think I need to stop using external plugins and write my own.
Time for some nostalgic indulgences. Before I synched the name of the site with the domain, the name of the site was Quaxzarron. The origin of this word dates, probably to my third year at IIT, when I wanted some word that "sounded" cool, and used mane of the big score letters - the Q, Z and X. Played around with all three letters for a while, till I came up with this combination. Have been using the Quaxzarron word ever since. The main advantage in "inventing" a word is that googling for that word will invariable lead people to me. Though, why anyone would google for that word is a mystery to me.
The story behind the current name of the site and domain is quite simple. My initials for my name are NRK, which sounds pretty similar to Anarchy, and when I could not get the domain name anarchy, I got the sweet lord of them all - anarchius. Nice roman sound eh?
The domain is registered with over at a site called signdomains.com. They were one of the two ICANN accredited domain registrars, and the other one did not quite have a good enough website or something. Recently extended the registration of the site through to Sept 23, 2010.
