Hi I am Ravi. Sometimes people call me BBC or NRK or ANARCHY (i wish). I particularly love the last name, which incidentally is also the root for this domain name. The "about me" page before this was a truely boneheaded one, which is what this too will turn out to be in another two years. It is something about the "about me" pages - they are boneheaded.
I am currently working with GE, India as an IMLP. Right now, I am working out of Fairfield, CT in the US and now am looking to see what life after IMLP is going to look like.
Before this I did my PGDCM from the Indian
Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC). And before that I did my B.Tech in Civil Engineering
from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM). Before IITM I lived almost all my life in hyderabad.
Talking about myself is one of the more non-value-added activity I can indulge in. And to add to it, when I try to put things about me in words one of two things happen - either I am lost for words, or I have so much to say that I dont know where to start. Lets see how this attempt goes, shall we?
From my ninth class I was interested in computers. I know
this sounds cliched but is sadly true. The first few classes, however were not a smashing hit. I wondered why someone would spend a whole class
of 40 minutes trying to teach a TV set (of which we had a
better version at home) do stuff that was trivially possible with a pen and paper. Fortunately this feeling
didn't last, when I discovered that the later chapters
actually had something cool. I did not really classify it as "cool" back then, as I was not particularly in with the lingo. But yeah, I realised that some programs did actually make sense.
I started to do the future chapters, after completing those assigned
for that class, often bribing some other not-too-interested
students for more computer time. That continued till
I reached the last chapter, which was
about sounds. Frequencies with loops and pauses and basically
the lot. I got caught. And the admonishment was "What
did you come herefor learning or playing?" Ok, that did
not make much sense to me then, nor does it make now.
I decided that time that the guy teaching me was as ignorant
about computers as I was at the beginning of the classes. That is
the same view I hold to this day and have preferred not to "learn" computers from another human being again.
This love with the plastic and copper continued into the
10th and from then in the form of the computers elective in
my 10+2. The passion continued into IIT, where I was the system administrator of the Civil Engineering Departmental Computing Facility (DCF). In IIMC, I was project lead and head of ISG, the in-house e-Solutions provider. I had taught myself languages like Pascal,
C/C++, VB, and continued into things like HTML, Perl, a bit
of CGI-programming also threw in a bit of POV-Ray. A little
of JAVA and VC++ was also in the pipeline. Ofcourse add to
all that Linux - and a bit of system administration and network
administration. Of course, IIMC added in a few Microsoft tools - ASP, IIS Admin, BO Server, NT Admin. Considering that now I work with computers for a living, things are not that bad after all.
Otherwise I spend time listening to music. Heavier the better. Had a very restricted music taste till the second
year at IIT, only Hindi film music. Then somebody introduced
me not to POP, but to something infinitely more
beautiful called Pink Floyd. By the time I was in the 3rd
year i was avaeraging almost all wakeful hours with rock and
higher, into the realms of the metal. Nothing like a favourite
band and or genre, but i do love Gothic metal the most, and metal the
british variety. So that forms like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer,
Pantera and goes on to groups like Iron maiden, and suchlike.
Then I also branch out into oasis and the like, with a little
of grunge going the nirvana way, at the same time tripping
on the edges of sanity with Deicide and co. And then one cannot
but help of talking of groups like saigon-kick, creed, Tool, Sevendust and
other such musical extravaganza. Talking about one and all
is a job better left to some other page dealing exclusively
in that subject, because it will not be giving them enough
justice. I am thinking, one day I will come around to talking about music on this site too.
Finally, some time playing too. Football, Cricket, Volley Ball, and some
other outdoor games. Computer games like the Quake.*, Unreal, NFS etc. My handle is either Anarchy or Narak, the latter standing for "hell".
Other hobbies include Photography. Have a collection of photographs, will probably put them online in some time. Another of the new hobbies I have been developing/working on is travelling. I think I really like doing it, and more importantly I love driving. Have driven return from New York to India in the last six months - some 14k miles. Yeah, I think I love driving.
Cannot think of anything more to add right now, will do so when I find the time. Caio. |
